Chick Korea and Gary Burton - two of the most important jazz instrumentalists in the world - concert on Tuesday, March 20, at 7.30 pm at the Palace Hall, in an extraordinary concert organized by the National Opera Theater "Ion Dacian".
The four-decade collaboration of the two - "one of the most award-winning collaborations in the world of jazz" (Los Angeles Times) - has materialized over time in five albums recorded together and five Grammy Awards. There is, based on this collaboration, a creative synergy out of the ordinary. "You have to transpire what is happening between us in the realm of magic," says Chick Corea for The Star Tribune.
Chick Corea and Gary Burton collaborated for the first time in the summer of 1972, in Munich, the album recorded that year, "Crystal Silence", becoming a landmark in the history of jazz. They then continued to record albums periodically and to perform duet concerts, every year, all over the world. The Bucharest event is part of the promotion tour of the two most recent album, "Hot House".
Chick Korea is one of the most important pianists in the world and one of the most prolific composers of the last 50 years. He has won 16 Grammy Awards over the years and has received an impressive 51 nominations. The variety of genres he approached and his artistic versatility gave Chick Corea the nickname "Chameleon". Korea has, during his career, tackled an impressive number of genres, has been part of the first wave of jazz fusion, as a member of Miles Davis' rock and funk band and is the founder of the jazz band Return to Forever.
Gary Burton is by far the most influential vibraphonist of his generation and one of the greatest jazz artists of the last 50 years. Burton has won 6 Grammy Awards, received 15 nominations and has countless other specialty awards. Gary Burton is also known for launching the jazz fusion style, popularizing the jazz duet and is, at the same time, one of the major personalities in jazz teaching, with over 30 years of teaching activity.
The concert presented by the National Opera Theater "Ion Dacian" is the second of a series of special events that, together with the annual organization of the International Festival of the Performing Arts "Life is beautiful!", Aims to bring the audience in Romania to those more important names of the international music scene, also highlighting the potential of the artistic band of the Theater by facilitating its collaboration with world-renowned artists.
The concert by Chick Corea and Gary Burton is, at the same time, part of the series of events held within the national cultural project "Art Against Drugs"2012, initiated by CIADO Romania, which promotes art as a beneficial way of spending free time and as an alternative to a healthy life.
